"Ozymandias" is good for hubris. Once F and I were driving through Arkansas on a very flat highway, with nothing around for miles. There was sign after sign warning about highway work ahead, but when we got there the only thing we saw was a huge concrete form standing next to the road where they were going to build an overpass. F looked up at it as we drove by and murmurred, "Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair." It was so funny because this thing was standing by itself in the middle of an enormous wasteland. I thought how cool it was for my daughter to be quoting Shelley in Arkansas. Don't know "Song of Myself" or "Vitae Lamapada" - that one sounds like an eel to me for some reason. I really kind of disapprove of "Invictus". It's like an atheist shaking his fist at fate, or the universe, or something; I've known people like that and they were miserably unhappy.

Thanks for satisfying my curiosity!Laura(southernxyl)https://www.blogger.com/profile/02880277733341078157noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18251921.post-18797851602347034582007-06-03T20:44:00.000-04:002007-06-03T20:44:00.000-04:00My grandmother just bought E the book "The Dangero...My grandmother just bought E the book "The Dangerous Book for Boys" It has list of 7 poems every boy should know and I thought about you post.
